| 内容記述 | This paper explores the determinants of migration to Sapporo city in the Hokkaido region of Japan. The migration to Sapporo, which is the biggest city in Hokkaido, is rising. The population in Sapporo occupied 25.1% of Hokkaido's total population in 1980, which increased to 36.3% in 2015. The concentration of people in Sapporo causes fewer population and a higher elderly rate in the rural area. Most rural municipalities in Hokkaido are considered to "disappear" in the near future. Using aggregated data on migration from 26 cities in the rural Hokkaido to Sapporo city, this paper examines how socio-economic variables, such as differences in income level and unemployment rate, affect the migration from a rural area to an urban area. This paper is the first of its kind, which focuses on the migration with in the Hokkaido region. | |||||
