| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to examine production trend and its regional characteristics in local industry since 1990s through an analysis of census of manufacture. Local industries include a variety of industry categories. This study focuses on eight major local industries: textile and knit fabric, dyeing, clothing, furniture, handmade and machine-made Japanese paper, ceramics, foundry, and lacquerware. First, the industrial characteristics of major local industries are mentioned, and the characteristics of location of these industries are identified based on regional categorization of prefectures. Production trends in major local industries are analyzed based on a comparison of data from the 1992 and 2016 census of manufacture. The results showed that no industry category saw an increase in enterprises between 1992 and 2016, and in each case the number of enterprises decreased to less than half, confirming the rapid decline of local industry. The extent of the decline in production value varied by industry category, with some industry categories maintaining or expanding it. An examination of trends in the number of enterprises by regional category reveals that some industries have declined in the status of major regions, while others continue to rely on production in major regions. Thus, it is clear that the decline of local industries since 1990s has not proceeded uniformly, but has taken on a different form for each industry category and region. | |||||
